‘Bulls eye’ sponsorship for Jean

A local pensioner, county darts player and charity fundraiser, has hit the ‘bulls eye’ after securing sponsorship with Jennings Motor Group.
71-year-old, Jean Baron, from Thornaby in Stockton, needed essential funding for her to be able to continue a lifelong hobby, which over the years has also raised thousands of pounds for charity, so she contacted local MP, Dari Taylor, who steered her towards Jennings Motor Group.
When Nas Khan, managing director of Jennings Motor Group, received the letter, he was keen to find out more.
Following a meeting at the group’s Cargo Fleet Lane dealership in Middlesbrough, Mr Khan was so impressed with Jean and her achievements over the years, in particular the fundraising, he agreed to sponsor Jean not only this season, but also guaranteed sponsorship for next season.
Nas Khan, managing director of Jennings Motor Group, said; “As a company committed to supporting the local community, we were more than willing to assist Jean with her request.
She is an extremely dedicated and committed lady who has achieved many trophies and at the same time contributed towards raising thousands of pounds for local charity.”
Jean started playing darts at the age of 18 when she worked as a bus conductor for the former Stockton Corporation and a team of work colleagues took up the traditional pub game for a bit of fun.
The bug soon took hold and before long Jean was competing in various leagues, attending tournaments and winning over 20 trophies at clubs across the region, in addition to raising money for local charity, the Great North Air Ambulance.
It was in 2005 when Jean started playing for the county and since that time she has been presented with two ‘Lady of the Match’ awards.
Over the years, Jean has also travelled the length and breadth of the country, competed in various tournaments and championships and achieved numerous trophies along the way.
Jean’s busy weekly schedule entails playing darts for a mixed league each Sunday, raising money for the Great North Air Ambulance every Tuesday, playing in a super league on a Thursday and playing once a month for the county.
Jean Baron, said; “I just love playing darts and competing in various leagues and championships, it’s great fun. The sponsorship received from Jennings Motor Group is greatly appreciated and I would like to thank Mr Khan for his support.”
The recent sponsorship presentation, which took place at JenningsFord’s dealership in Middlesbrough, spurred Dari Taylor to challenge Jean to a charity darts evening.
The event will take place at 8pm on Tuesday 27th April at the Social and Leisure Club in Thornaby. All money raised on the evening will be donated to the Great North Air Ambulance.
