The Mazda2 supermini which has been crowned ‘2008 World Car of the Year’ is on sale and available to test drive at JenningsMazda in Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
An international jury of 47 automotive writers hailed the all-new five-door hatchback as the ‘World’s Best Car’ at the New York International Auto Show.
Selected from a list of 39 contenders from across the globe, the Mazda2 beat the short-listed Ford Mondeo and Mercedes C-Class to claim the highly acclaimed ‘World Car of the Year’ crown. Previous winners of the coveted award include the Lexus LS460, BMW 3–Series and Audi A6.
Between them, the group’s Riverside Road dealership and Cargo Fleet Lane branch have sold a total of 174 of the Mazda2 models to customers since its launch last September.
Chris Nixon, franchise manager at JenningsMazda in Sunderland, said; “The all-new Mazda2 appeals to supermini buyers as a result of its distinctive styling, spacious cabin and excellent driving dynamics. This coupled with low running costs and low CO2 emissions, acknowledged by receiving the ‘World Car of the Year’ ‘environment score, and Mazda2 starts to tick all the boxes for small car buyers.”
Five versions of the five-door hatchback are available with a choice of three petrol and one diesel engine plus three equipment levels.
