A local charity’s second fundraising appeal has topped the £20,000 mark.

The Emaan Foundation, a registered charity set up by philanthropic local businessman Nas Khan, has raised £5052 at its annual charity golf day held recently at Teesside Golf Club, and boosted fundraising past the £20,000 mark.

A team of 18 generous participants and keen golfers teed off for an afternoon of birdies, bogies and eagles at the Club, based on Acklam Road in Thornaby, Stockton, and later retired to the Clubhouse where they enjoyed a meal and refreshments.

Nas Khan, founder of The Emaan Foundation and managing director of Jennings Motor Group said: “This is the fourth consecutive year we have organised the golf event, which has grown substantially over the years, as well as the amount we have raised each year.”

Last year, a second appeal was set up by Nas Khan, founder of the charity and managing director of Jennings Motor Group, with the aim to build a health centre for the people living in Rahim Yar Khan, an area affected by the devastating floods in 2010.

Continuing to work in conjunction with international aid organisation, Human Appeal, the charity’s first fundraising appeal raised £120,000, which built an entire new village consisting of 60 homes, complete with livestock and clean drinking water for the people of Rahim Yar Khan.

Officially named the Emaan Village, the construction of a new health centre will help those people living in the village who currently have to travel hundreds of miles to receive basic medical treatment.

Nas added: “There is a real community in the Emaan Village now and people are supporting each other, but work still needs to be done to further improve their lives.

“On behalf of The Emaan Foundation, I would like to thank everyone who has participated in the event and contributed towards both of our fundraising appeals, we simply couldn’t do it without the on-going and generous support.”
