A young teenager’s career is adding up to a successful future thanks to her local Ford dealer, Jennings, part of the Jennings Motor Group.

16-year-old, Emma Wathey, from Billingham, is one of seven new Apprentices who have been appointed to work within various departments at Jennings Ford’s branch network across the region.

Emma has embarked on a three-year Apprenticeship as an Accounts Assistant and will be working within the accounts department at the group’s Cargo Fleet Lane dealership in Middlesbrough.

Despite leaving Northfield Comprehensive School in Billingham with 10 GCSEs, Emma was keen to start earning cash, gain practical hands-on experience and knowledge, in addition to working towards achieving additional qualifications.

Emma said; “I knew I didn’t want to stay on at school so the Apprenticeship programme was the perfect option for me.”

After visiting the national Apprenticeship website, Emma was steered towards Jennings Motor Group’s site where she submitted her details on-line and within a few days was asked to attend an interview.

Working within the Accounts Department at the Middlesbrough dealership, Emma is learning job-specific skills from qualified members of staff who are experts in their field. Already she has covered areas such as purchase ledger and banking.

Donna Moore, accountant at Jennings Ford, said; “The Apprenticeship programme is a great option for young school leavers as it allows them to gain valuable experience and at the same time work towards achieving nationally recognised qualifications.

“Already Emma is proving to be an asset to the team.”

Other Apprentices have been recruited within the Commercial Sales Centre at the group’s Middlesbrough dealership, in addition to the parts department at Stockton and the service department at Gateshead.
