It was a case of keeping it in the family for an ambitious young woman from Gateshead when she embarked on an Apprenticeship programme with the same company her father has been employed with for the past eight years.

Samantha Robinson, 17, from Gateshead, is the latest Apprentice to be appointed by Jennings Motor Group, after securing a one-year Apprenticeship as a service advisor at Jennings Kia’s Parsons Road service department in Washington.

For the past eight years, Samantha’s father, Paul Robinson, has been employed as a sales executive at the group’s Ford Direct dealership, based on Newcastle Road in South Shields.

Delighted to have been given the opportunity to progress a career and learn new skills within the same industry as her father, Samantha, said;

“The Apprenticeship programme not only allows me to gain valuable hands-on experience by learning from members of staff qualified in their field, but it also allows me to work towards achieving additional and nationally recognised qualifications, in addition to earning a wage at the same time – so it really does offer the best of both worlds to youngsters.

“Working for the same employer as my Dad, is obviously an added bonus for me.”

After leaving Cardinal Hume Catholic School, Samantha’s initial goal was to study towards achieving ‘A’ Levels, but after several months, she decided it just wasn’t for her and started looking for an alternative career path to take.

Surfing the internet steered Samantha towards Jennings Motor Group’s website where she found out about the various Apprenticeship Programmes available across the group’s service, sales, accounts and parts departments.

After submitting her CV online, Samantha was asked to attend a number of interviews and was offered an Apprenticeship within the service department at Washington.

Working alongside a team of four, Samantha’s responsibilities include liaising with existing and potential customers, arranging and confirming bookings, processing orders, invoicing and taking enquiries.

Service manager, June Appleyard, said; “Samantha is a very keen and committed individual and already proving to be an asset to the service team at Washington.

“Samantha’s appointment is also in keeping with Kia’s ‘Family-like Care’ promise, which demonstrates the family-like relationship we have with our customers based on mutual trust, honesty and reliability.”

Samantha is one of 19 Apprentices who have been recruited this year across the group’s service, sales, parts and accounts departments.

The service department at Washington has a dedicated team of staff, all of whom are committed to delivering the highest level of customer service, in addition to a team of Kia trained motor vehicle technicians who are able to service and MOT customer’s cars using the latest tools and diagnostic equipment and genuine Kia parts.
