Apprenticeship is best Christmas present for new trainee, Scott

Christmas has come early for an ambitious youngster from Sunderland – and it’s all thanks to his local Ford dealer, Jennings.

Scott Ganley, 17, from Grindon, has been unemployed since leaving school in the summer, but is now on track to a full-time career in motors after being appointed as an Apprentice Motor Vehicle Technician within the Commercial Service department at JenningsFord’s Riverside Road dealership, just off Wessington Way in Sunderland.

Since leaving St Aidan’s RC School in Sunderland, Scott has been actively looking for full-time employment, but unfortunately without any success.

That was until he was pointed in the direction of the Apprenticeship Programme, which is managed and co-ordinated by Ford automotive training provider, Skillnet Limited.

Scott said; “I was delighted when I was called for an interview. Securing the Apprenticeship placement at JenningsFord was a great achievement and having something to aim towards is great. It's the best Christmas present.”

Scott will complete a three-year Apprenticeship programme at the JenningsFord dealership, which will involve on-the-job training, in addition to on-going assessments and block release training.

Delighted to welcome the youngster on board, Ian Grant, commercial after sales manager at Jennings Ford in Sunderland, said; “The Ford Apprenticeship programme is an excellent opportunity for youngsters, who are looking to take that first step on the career ladder.”

Ian added; “It was apparent at the interview that Scott had potential to succeed. He is a keen, dedicated and enthusiastic individual who will no doubt prove to be an asset to the service team.”

At the end of the Programme, as well as being awarded Ford Motor Technician status, Scott will also be given the opportunity to progress through to the Ford Masters Technician status. This includes three levels of accreditation; service Maintenance Technician, Diagnostic Technician and Master Technician status.
