Apprenticeship opens doors of opportunity for Laura

An ambitious young woman from Middlesbrough is putting her career success down to an Apprenticeship Programme she embarked on six years ago.

When Laura Bean, now 22, from Middlesbrough, started on a three-year apprenticeship programme within the service department at Jennings Ford’s Cargo Fleet Lane dealership in Middlesbrough after leaving school at the age of 16, she had no idea it would lead to a full-time job and successful career with one of the region’s longest established motor dealers.

Within four months of starting the Apprenticeship Programme, Laura’s potential was recognised by her boss who decided to put her on the books full-time. She was also encouraged to complete the Apprenticeship Programme and three years later achieved an NVQ Level II Diploma in Business Administration.

There’s been no looking back for Laura, who since joining the company, has gained a wealth of valuable experience and knowledge working within the Ford service department.

“The Apprenticeship programme allowed me to gain practical hands on experience and at the same time work towards achieving a recognised qualification, which was ideal,” said Laura.

She added; “I haven’t looked back since leaving school and joining Jennings, it was definitely the right career path for me to take and it has opened doors of opportunity which I am extremely grateful for. I would certainly recommend an Apprenticeship to others seeking to gain qualifications combined with practical experience.”

In 2008 Laura received a promotion to sales administrator which involved transferring to the group’s Mazda dealership located within Jennings’ supersite in Middlesbrough.

Laura is currently responsible for providing administration support to franchise manager, James Chorlton, sales controller/business manager, Dave Horsely and the team of three sales executives.

In addition to being the first point of contact for both existing and potential customers wanting to speak to members of the sales team, filtering calls to relevant individuals, Laura is also responsible for taxing retail and fleet vehicles and invoicing.

James Chorlton, franchise manager at Jennings Mazda in Middlesbrough, said;

“Laura is an asset to the team at Jennings Mazda.”
