A youngster from Consett is driving towards a successful career in motors thanks to Jennings Ford, part of the Jennings Motor Group.

Kyle Dunlop, 19, has embarked on an Apprenticeship programme within the service department at Jennings Ford’s Eslington Park dealership in Gateshead, with the aim to become a fully fledged Ford approved motor technician.

After studying at Manchester College for a year and later at Newcastle College where he achieved a City and Guilds Diploma in Motor Mechanics, Kyle was keen to find full-time employment, but at the same time wanted to gain practical experience and achieve nationally recognised qualifications.

After scouring the internet, he came across a vacancy for a three-year Apprenticeship programme, which was advertised on Jennings Ford’s website.

Kyle said; “The Apprenticeship programme gives you the opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience and at the same time allows you to work towards additional qualifications – it was the perfect option for me.

“It’s the first step on the career ladder for me and I am learning job-specific skills from people who are experts in their field.”

After filling in an online application, Kyle was invited to attend an interview at the Ford motor dealer in Gateshead with service manager, Ian Stewart.

“Throughout the three-year Apprenticeship Programme, Kyle will undergo on-the-job training, in addition to receiving on-going assessments and block release training at college.

“Kyle has already achieved a Diploma in Motor Mechanics and this coupled with his enthusiasm and determination to succeed, made him the ideal candidate to be taken on as an Apprentice within the service department.”

Although Kyle’s first goal is to become an approved Ford Technician, his overall aim is to eventually achieve the highest level of Master Technician status.
