Callum’s drive towards sales success at Jennings SEAT
Posted on 20 Feb 2017
A member of staff at Jennings SEAT, part of the multi-award winning Jennings Motor Group, is pursuing a career in car sales after successfully passing his practical driving test.
Callum Batkin, 20, from Stockton, has always wanted to work in car sales, but there was one thing stopping him – the fact that he couldn’t drive.
Staff at the Jennings SEAT dealership on Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough, took the ambitious youngster under their wing and appointed him as a service advisor with the aim to transfer to the sales department as soon as he passed his practical driving test.
Craig Johnson, franchise manager at Jennings SEAT in Middlesbrough, said: “Having a full driving licence is an essential requirement in car sales.
“Callum’s determination to succeed shone through at the interview, so initially we decided to offer him a job within the service department, which enabled him to start gaining experience and skills in a customer-facing role.”
Passing his practical driving test with flying colours has resulted in Callum finally being given the opportunity to pursue a career he has only ever dreamed of.
Callum said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working within the service department, which has given me an insight into the motor industry, as well as allowing me to learn new skills and gain valuable experience, but it’s sales where I really want to be.
“I am extremely grateful to Jennings SEAT for giving me this excellent opportunity – I’m absolutely delighted to have a full diving licence and to be working as a sales executive - it’s great!”
In his role as sales executive, Callum is responsible for selling the new SEAT model line-up, in addition to quality used cars to customers in order to contribute towards achieving monthly and quarterly sales objectives. Other aspects of the role includes liaising with existing and potential customers, processing orders, delivering vehicles to customers within the allocated timescale, attending regular training courses to keep up-to-speed with new model launches, in addition to ensuring the company’s award-winning customer service is delivered at all times.
Since transferring to the department, Callum has undergone a series of in-house training, which has contributed towards securing 20 new and used car sales at the dealership. He will also be taking part in various training programmes organised through SEAT at its Training Centre in Milton Keynes later this year.
After leaving Ian Ramsey Church of England Academy in Stockton following his GCSEs, Callum went on to complete a two-year BTEC in Media Studies at Middlesbrough College, prior to being employed by Jennings Motor Group.
