CELEBRATION AT THE DOUBLE FOR LOYAL EMPLOYEE

A member of staff has been rewarded for four decades of loyalty to his employer, Jennings.
It was a double celebration for dedicated employee, Brian Johnston, from South Shields, who on the same day he received his loyalty rewards, he also celebrated his 60th birthday.
The presentation took place when operations director, Nicky Dalkin, handed Brian his loyalty vouchers at the group’s new Jennings Kia branch in Washington.
Nicky said; “Brian has been a loyal and dedicated employee for the past 40 years, during which time he has always been dedicated to his job, his team and his customers.”
Brian’s career in the motor industry started when he left school at the age of 15 and he was taken on as an apprentice mechanic at the former F Routhwaite Garage on Newcastle Road in South Shields.
“I always knew I wanted to work in motors and being taken on as an apprentice mechanic was the first step towards a long and successful career in motors for me,” said Brian.
Brian added; “The loyalty reward couldn’t have come at a better time. It is certainly going to be a birthday to remember.”
In 1972, Brian was taken on as a mechanic at the Jennings Ford Direct dealership, formerly known as Selwoods of South Shields, located on Newcastle Road.
But in 1979 he decided it was time for a change and transferred from the workshops to service reception, prior to gaining experience as a workshop controller. In 1981, Brian was promoted to service and aftersales manager, the same position he holds today.
Over the years, he also spent time working within the service department at the group’s former branch in Morpeth and the Eslington Park dealership in Gateshead.
In 2010, he transferred to work at the group’s Ford and Mazda service department located on Parsons Road in Washington.
Following the launch of a the group’s new Jennings Kia franchise in Washington last year, Brian has taken on the added responsibility of providing a service to the the group’s new Kia customers at the busy service department.
In his role as service and aftersales manager, Brian is responsible for the day-today running of the department, achieving monthly, quarterly and annual sales objectives set out by Jennings, Ford, Mazda and Kia, overseeing a team of technicians, workshop controllers and service receptionists, in addition to ensuring both existing and new customers of Jennings Kia, receive the highest level of service.
