David takes on Motability role at Jennings Ford Stockton dealership

A role change and dealership transfer was on the cards for an experienced member of staff at Jennings Motor Group.

Within 12 months of joining the company, time served panel beater, David Heslop, 59, from South Shields, has transferred to work as a Motability specialist at the group’s Yarm Road branch in Stockton, after previously working as a sales executive at the company’s Ford Direct site in South Shields.

As Motability specialist, David, whose experience in the motor industry spans nearly four decades, will be responsible for advising customers who are eligible to lease a new car through the Motability programme, arranging test drives, generating Motability sales, and delivering cars to customers.

David said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me to gain experience and knowledge in the Motability side of the business.

“I’m looking forward to helping and advising customers to find the right model for them from Ford’s award-winning range of cars that deliver versatility and space without compromising on performance, driveability or style.”

David’s motoring career began at the age of 16 when he embarked on a four-year Apprenticeship and later became a full-fledged panel beater, but he soon realised it wanted to gain experience in a customer-facing role and started working in sales.

The career change paid off for dedicated David, who over the years, has gained valuable experience in all aspects of new and used car sales, as well as carrying out a variety of duties and responsibilities in a number of managerial roles.

Ray Riaz, general manager at Jennings Ford in Stockton, said: “The aim of the Motability programme is to help disabled people and their families, become mobile.

“For many years we have been responsible for providing a professional service, as well as supplying hundreds of cars to Motability customers in and around Stockton.

We’re delighted to welcome David to the sales team at Stockton where he will be responsible for existing customers, in addition to further expanding the Motability business at the dealership.”

To qualify for a vehicle through the Ford Motability programme, customers must be in receipt of any of the following; the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (HRMC-DLA), Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of the Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP), Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP), or War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS).

As well as being able to choose a new car every three years and nominate up to two drivers, Motability customers can also take advantage of insurance, servicing and maintenance, full RAC breakdown assistance, annual car tax, replacement tyres, many adaptations at no extra cost, and a 60,000 mileage allowance over the three-year lease.
