A kind hearted member of staff at the Jennings Ford and Mazda dealership in Sunderland is putting her best foot forward this weekend in a bid to raise money for charity.
By day, 37-year-old, Dionne Martin, from South Shields, works as a local business executive within the Riverside Road dealership, just off Wessington Way, but by night the fitness fanatic is following a strict training regime in preparation to successfully complete the Great North Run later this month which will raise money for her chosen charity – Children’s Liver Disease Foundation.
The majority of Dionne’s training has been taking place at the end of a hard day at the busy Jennings Ford and Mazda dealership.
As soon as the clock strikes 5.30pm, determined Dionne exchanges her work uniform for running attire and sets off on an 8 mile run from her place of work in Sunderland to her home in South Shields.
“This is the first time I have taken part in the Great North Run, so it’s going to be a whole new challenge and experience for me, but one I am very much excited about and looking forward to,” said Dionne.
“The majority of my training has been taking place immediately after work, which on some days, has been a challenge in itself!”
For many years, Dionne has watched and cheered other participants of the Great North Run, as the route passes directly in front of her home in South Shields, but this time the shoe will be on the other foot.
Dionne added; “I am aiming to complete the run in less than two hours, which will be a great achievement for me, however, my main focus is to raise money for my chosen charity, the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation.”
The charity fights childhood liver disease by funding vital research, informing and educating healthcare professionals, parents and the public on the signs and symptoms to looks for, in addition to campaigning and lobbying to give young people and their families one strong voice.
Dionne has worked as a local business executive at the Jennings dealership in Sunderland for the past five years. Her role involves being responsible for providing tailor-made packages for local businesses looking to purchase both Ford and Mazda fleet vehicles.
Ray Cardwell, business centre manager at the Jennings Ford and Mazda dealership, said; “On behalf of Jennings, I would like to take this opportunity to wish Dionne every success. Judging by the amount of training she has been putting in, I’m sure she will raise a lot of money for her chosen charity.”
