Dream come true wedding for charity champions

Raising thousands of pounds for charity resulted in a devoted Spennymoor couple exchanging vows in a dream come true wedding.

The dream became reality for Matthew Hulbert, 31, and Kendra Blackett, 23, when they tied the knot in an all expenses paid wedding ceremony, which was witnessed by family and friends and took place at Crathorne Hotel in Yarm.

The wedding was a result of the Five Brides One Wedding competition, which was organised by TFM Radio and supported by Jennings' Ford, Ford Commercials, Mazda and SEAT dealerships.

First, Matthew and Kendra had to beat more than 600 applicants, then take part in a gruelling Bridal Boot Camp exercise, prior to being set the ultimate challenge – to raise as much money in one week for the Radio’s Cash for Kids charity.

The final part of the competition involved Matthew, a Sergeant in the Royal Signals and personal trainer, Kendra, competing against four other couples in a bid to claim the ultimate wedding package, which was worth up to £25,000.

A number of bag packing events in just about every supermarket in the area, tombolas, raffles, a football and bonus ball competitions, in addition to scouring pubs and clubs across the region for support, resulted in the happy couple claiming the competition prize after raising a staggering £13,780 for the charity.

In order to assist the couples, Matthew and Kendra were supplied with one of five Ford, Mazda and SEAT vehicles, which were supplied by Jennings Motor Group for the duration of the competition.

A combined effort from all five couples resulted in just under £40,000 being raised for the charity. All of the money will stay within the local area to help the neediest children.

Thanks to the competition, the couple who got engaged last year when Matthew popped the question to Kendra at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, are looking forward to a lifelong of happiness.

Dawn Carney, Manager of Cash for Kids said; “On behalf of TFM Radio’s Cash for Kids charity, I would like to wish both Matthew and Kendra a lifelong of love, health and happiness.”
