dedicated youngster is aiming to follow in his father’s footsteps at Jennings Ford.

Carlton Murray, 16, from Blyth in Northumberland, has embarked on an Apprenticeship Programme within the service department at the group’s Eslington Park branch in Gateshead, with the aim to become a fully fledged master technician just like his father, Steve.

When Carlton completes the 3-year Apprenticeship Programme, which is managed and co-ordinated by Ford automotive training provider, Skillnet, not only will he be firmly on track to a full-time job, but it will also be the next step on the career ladder and another step towards following his father.

“I am delighted to have been given this excellent opportunity and to be working with my Dad is an added bonus, it’s great, I love it,” said Carlton.

Carlton’s father, Steve, who has been working at the Jennings Ford dealership for the past 13 years, has worked his way up the ranks to master technician status.

Not only has he remained loyal over the years, but in 2005 he was also one of the region’s first technicians to qualify in a ground breaking national initiative which was governed by The Institute of the Motor Industry.

The highly prestigious Automotive Technician Accreditation was awarded to Steve after he successfully passed a number of rigorous practical and theory tests, which took place over a period of six months.

Diagnosing problems under the bonnet may come as second nature to Steve, but mechanically minded Carlton is one hundred percent committed and determined to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Carlton’s father, Steve Murray said; “The Apprenticeship Programme is perfect for Carlton, who is able to gain practical hands on experience, in addition to gaining additional qualifications which will allow him to progress to the next level in the future.”
