Fred ‘Imp’resses the judges and scoops award for Alan

They normally say a man’s best friend is his dog, but for a member of staff at Jennings Ford - it’s his Imp!
Alan Platten, 44, from Ingleby Barwick, knows a thing or two about motors having worked as a sales executive at the Group’s Yarm Road dealership in Stockton for the past 13 years. But when he’s not busy selling Ford cars, the rest of his spare time is devoted to his 41-year-old companion, Fred.
It all started in 1981 when Alan bought his first Hillman Imp and became a member of the Imp Club.
Alan said; “Initially, I was looking to buy a mini, but accidentally came across a Hillman Imp that was on sale in Sunderland. I fell in love with it and just knew I had to have it.”
Since that memorable day, there’s been no looking back for the Hillman Imp enthusiast;
Alan went on to say; “I’ve owned four Imps since then, the most recent being Fred who was named by my two daughters, Laura, 13 and Chloe, 9, after his registration FFR924D.”
Over the years, Alan, his wife Julie, two daughters, Laura and Chloe, have travelled hundreds of miles in order to attend various events and competitions organised by the Imp Club.
The most recent was to Paddock Wood in Kent, where Fred came up trumps and won his first award after placing in the ‘Best Singer Chamois Saloon’ category at the Imp Clubs national weekend.
“This is the first time in 26 years we’ve won an award, so we’re all absolutely delighted and over the moon,” said Alan.
“Being a member of the Imp Club has enabled us to meet many new and interesting people, many of whom have become good friends over the years.”comments powered by
