In the running for charity

A member of staff at Jennings Ford in Stockton is putting his best foot forward in a bid to raise cash for charity.
Fitness fanatic, Paul Hughes, 45, from Stockton, who works as a delivery driver at the Yarm Road dealership, is currently undergoing a strict training regime in order to take part in the Redcar and Cleveland Half Marathon later this year.
Paul, a member of Billingham Marsh House Harriers, is no stranger to participating in Marathons having successfully completed the Dublin Marathon with a friend, John Bulmer, last year.
Thanks to generous support from family, friends and work colleagues, Paul managed to raise more than £500 for his chosen charity, Middlesbrough Disabled Supporters Club.
In addition to taking part in the Dublin Marathon, he has also participated in other events including the Brass Monkey Half Marathon in York, North Yorkshire and numerous 10K-runs across the region.
“The next event on the calendar for me is the Redcar and Cleveland Half Marathon, which I’m currently training hard for,” said Paul.
The event is scheduled to take place in June of this year rather than previous events which have been mid April.
Although, Paul hasn’t yet decided which charity will benefit from his hard work, he is determined the cash will stay local.
Paul added; “It is important to me to make sure the charity, which does benefit from the forthcoming Half Marathon run, is a local one.
Family, friends and work colleagues were extremely supportive and generous with sponsorship donations for the Dublin Marathon event and if I can raise the same amount again, I will be an extremely happy man.”
For now though, Paul is steering his efforts towards a healthy diet and strict training regime.
Paul’s boss at the Ford dealership in Stockton, Ray Riaz, general manager, said; “Paul is a dedicated and committed member of staff who is passionate about his running and enjoys the charity fundraising challenge.”
The Redcar Half Marathon, which is organised in partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Council, takes place on Sunday the 13th June 2010.comments powered by
