A member of staff at Jennings Motor Group is celebrating after receiving a promotion, which has also resulted in a dealership transfer.
Loyal employee Duncan Oliver, 40, from Sunderland, has transferred from the group’s service department in Washington where he previously worked as workshop controller, to take over as service manager at the company’s Ford Direct dealership in South Shields.
In his new role as service manager at the Newcastle Road site, Duncan will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the service department, which will involve overseeing a 19-strong team, including Ford approved technicians, a workshop foreman and controller, a warranty advisor, service advisors and drivers. Part of the role also includes achieving monthly and quarterly objectives set out by Ford Motor Company, in addition to liaising with customers and consistently striving to provide the best possible customer service.
With more than 24 years’ experience in the motor industry behind him, Duncan is looking forward to the challenges ahead, he said; “I am delighted with the promotion, it is a fantastic opportunity for me to put into practice the knowledge and experience I have gained over the years working within the industry.”
One of Duncan’s main focuses will be to continue to strive to provide the dealership’s award-winning customer service, having achieved Ford’s most prestigious Chairman’s Award for delivering outstanding customer service on three separate occasions in the past.
Brian Johnston, group service and bodyshop manager, said; “Duncan is a dedicated and conscientious member of staff whose past experience and knowledge made him the perfect candidate to take over the role of service manager at the group’s South Tyneside dealership.”
After leaving Thornhill Comprehensive School at the age of 16, Duncan embarked on a three-year Apprenticeship with another motor dealer in the region and became a Heavy Goods Technician before transferring to work as a technician on motor vehicles. He then spent time gaining experience as a Rapid Fit supervisor before joining Jennings Ford’s former dealership in Sunderland as workshop controller. For the past two years he has worked as a workshop controller at the group’s Parsons Road service department in Washington.
The Jennings Ford Direct dealership sells quality approved used cars direct from the manufacturer, in addition to catering for customers after sales needs via an in-house service, MOT and parts department.
