For the seventh consecutive year, Jennings Motor Group is stepping in to support one of the UK’s biggest cycling events, which is expected to attract thousands of cyclists to the region this weekend and boost funds for a number of charities.

The Virgin Money Cyclone event 2013, which offers a full weekend of cycling events suitable for everyone of all ages and ranges in ability from recreational cyclists to World Class Olympic riders, is being supported by the region’s motor dealer group with a fleet of reliable vehicles.

A Ford Transit van and seven Ford and Kia vehicles from the group’s branches in Gateshead, South Shields, Washington and Middlesbrough, are being provided as support vehicles for the three-day event, which is scheduled to start on Friday 28 June.

Each vehicle will be filled with fuel in preparation for the finale of the weekend, the Beaumont Trophy Premier Calendar Road Race and the Curlew Cup, one of the national road race series events for women.

The four-day programme of events will start with the ‘Tyne 6 Bridges’ aimed at those wishing to participate in a leisurely ride along the Banks of the Tyne using a traffic-free route. This will be followed by the Newcastle Leazes Criteriums which will involve cyclists of all ages covering a course around the park, in addition to one of the premier cycling events in the UK, the Cyclone Challenge, where non-competitive cyclists test their fitness and set themselves a personal challenge. The Curlew Cup, based around the village of Stamfordham, will precede the final Beaumont Trophy event.

Peter Harrison, organiser of the Virgin Money Cyclone event, said; “Once again, we are expecting the event, which is now established as one of the biggest in the National Cycling Calendar, to attract thousands of club and recreational cyclists who will be taking to the roads of Newcastle and Northumberland and with many riding on behalf of different charities.

“We are delighted that Jennings Motor Group is supporting the event for the seventh consecutive year and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their continued support and generosity.”
