Local children and families will hopefully enjoy a happy Christmas this year, thanks to The Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal, which is being supported by Jennings Motor Group.
For the 13th consecutive year, the group, which operates Ford, Mazda, SEAT and Kia dealerships across the North East, is using its branch network as convenient drop off points for staff or members of the public who want to make a donation to the Salvation Army’s Appeal.
Members of the public have until Friday 16th December to take any unwrapped gifts, including new toys for children, gifts for teenagers and the elderly to any Jennings showroom based at South Shields, Sunderland, Washington, Gateshead, Stockton or Middlesbrough.
“Millions of children and young people have benefited from the gifts donated to The Salvation Army over many years. We know many families are really struggling this year and that’s why more than ever, The Salvation Army needs your support this year. By giving a gift to our Christmas Present Appeal you can make a real difference in someone’s life at Christmas,” said Captain Howard Russell Divisional Director for Community Services.
Last year in the North East area, the Appeal assisted over 7,000 children and 2,000 families and a further 1,000 were helped with food over the Christmas period.
As in previous years, the Salvation Army will not only be assisting Local Authority Social Services departments, but also many other Charities and Agencies that call upon them to assist with needs this Christmas.
“For children and young people we need everything, from soft and educational toys for the very youngest, to CDs, games and toys and accessories for older children. And please, don’t forget the teenagers, particularly the boys who sometimes tend to get left out of such appeals,” said Captain Russell.
David Walker, general sales manager at the Jennings Ford Direct branch in South Shields, said; “We are a very community-focused company and we are once again absolutely delighted to be assisting The Salvation Army with another Appeal.”
David added; “The Salvation Army does an amazing job helping people in the community, not just at Christmas time, but all year round. This time of year is the most difficult and challenging of all, as they have thousands of people they need to assist in order to make their Christmas extra special.”
Jennings branches can be found at Newcastle Road in South Shields; Riverside Road in Sunderland; Parsons Road in Washington; Eslington Park in Gateshead; Yarm Road in Stockton; Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough.
The Salvation Army believe every child deserves a new gift at Christmas, and are therefore unable to take used or second hand items for the Christmas Present Appeal.
