For the fifth consecutive year, Jennings Motor Group has stepped in to support one of the UK’s biggest cycling events, which is scheduled to take place in the North East this weekend.

When organisers of the Northern Rock Cyclone Festival of Cycling, which offers a full weekend of cycling events suitable for everyone of all ages and ranges in ability from recreational cyclists to World Class Olympic riders, were looking for a suitable sponsor to provide a fleet of reliable support vehicles, they turned to Jennings Motor Group.

Last minute preparations are currently underway at Jennings’ Ford and Mazda dealerships across the region to supply a Ford Transit van, which will be provided for the duration of the three-day event, and a total of seven Ford and Mazda vehicles. Each vehicle is being filled with fuel in preparation for the finale of the weekend on Sunday 26th June, the Men and Womens National Road Race Championships.

Other events taking place over the course of the weekend includes; the Newcastle Leazes Criteriums, which will be taking place on Friday 24th June at Leazes Park in Newcastle. The event will include cyclists of all ages covering a course around the park.

On Saturday 25th June, The Cyclone Challenge, one of the premier cycling events in the UK where non competitive cyclists can test their fitness and set themselves a personal challenge, will be taking place.

This weekend’s events are expected to attract more than 4055 club and recreational cyclists taking to the roads of Newcastle and Northumberland, with many of the cyclists riding on behalf of different charities.

Peter Harrison, organiser of the Northern Rock Cyclone Challenge, commented;

“2007 was the inaugural year of the event and it is now established as one of the biggest events in the National Cycling Calendar, in addition to being on the International Sporting Calendar.

“We expect this weekend to be another phenomenal success. We would like to thank all of our sponsors, including Jennings Motor Group, whose loyal and generous support is greatly appreciated.”
