For the sixth consecutive year, Jennings Motor Group stepped in to support one of the UK’s biggest cycling events which attracted more than 4200 cyclists to the region and boosted funds for a number of charities.
When organisers of the Virgin Money Cyclone, which offers a full weekend of cycling events suitable for everyone of all ages and ranges in ability from recreational cyclists to World Class Olympic riders, were looking for a suitable sponsor to provide a fleet of reliable support vehicles, once again they turned to Jennings Motor Group.
A Ford Transit Van and 7 Ford and Kia vehicles from the group’s branches in Gateshead, South Shields, Washington and Middlesbrough were provided for the duration of the three-day event. Each vehicle was filled with fuel in preparation for the finale of the weekend, the Beaumont Trophy Premier Calendar Road Race and the Curlew Cup, one of the national road race series events for women.
The four-day programme of events started with the ‘Tyne 6 Bridges’ aimed at those wishing to participate in a leisurely ride along the Banks of the Tyne using a traffic-free route. This was followed by the Newcastle Leazes Criteriums which involved cyclists of all ages covering a course around the park, in addition to one of the premier cycling events in the UK, the Cyclone Challenge, where non competitive cyclists test their fitness and set themselves a personal challenge. The Curlew Cup, based around the village of Stamfordham, preceded the final Beaumont Trophy event.
Peter Harrison, organiser of the Virgin Money Cyclone event, said; “This year’s event, which is now established as one of the biggest events in the National Cycling Calendar, in addition to being on the International Sporting Calendar, attracted more than 4200 club and recreational cyclists who took to the roads of Newcastle and Northumberland, with many riding on behalf of different charities.
“Jennings Motor Group has supported the event since the first one took place in 2007 and we would like to thank them for their loyal and generous support for another year.”
