Jo keeps it in the family

When a young and ambitious Darlington woman wanted to change her career, she decided to follow in the footsteps of her mum and grandfather.
22-year-old, Jo Tobin, has been appointed as a sales executive at Jennings Ford’s Yarm Road dealership in Stockton.
Prior to joining the motor dealer, the dedicated individual spent three years working as a travel consultant for Thomas Cook in Darlington.
Ready for a career change and keen to follow in the footsteps of her mum, Tracy and grandfather, Bruce Shiels, Jo started looking for something suitable within the motor industry.
“I needed a change and the motor industry was a natural choice for me, given my family’s history in the trade,” said Jo.
She added; “I’ve always been interested in motors and I knew how much mum enjoys her job, so when an opportunity arose at the Stockton branch, I submitted my cv and the rest as they say, is history."
Jo is confident the move has been worthwhile.
“I’m really enjoying the job, it’s certainly proving to be the best move I’ve made in my career.”
Jo’s mum, Tracy Tobin, also from Darlington, joined the group’s Cargo Fleet Lane dealership in Middlesbrough three years ago when, after spending eight years working in the fashion industry, decided it was time to put the textiles aside and follow in her father’s footsteps.
Tracy was appointed as a motability specialist and is currently based at the group’s Cargo Fleet Lane dealership in Middlesbrough.
Tracy said; “I’m delighted Jo has been appointed in sales at our Stockton branch and It’s great that we’re employed by the same company.”
Tracy’s father, Bruce Shiels, who is Jo’s grandfather, also spent 42 years in the industry and prior to his retirement, worked at JenningsFord’s Stockton and Middlesbrough dealerships for a number of years.
