Last chance to donate to Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal
Posted on 14 Sep 2009
The Salvation Army and Jennings Motor Group are warning members of the public who want to make a donation to this year’s Christmas Appeal, to do so before time runs out.
The Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal is the largest of its kind in the region and this year will be celebrating its 33rd year.
As in previous years, the Salvation Army will not only be assisting Local Authority Social Services departments, but also many other Charities and Agencies that call upon them to assist with needs this Christmas.
“Since its official launch towards the end of November, we have once again had a tremendous response from the people of the North East, which is fantastic news for us and the people we aim to assist at this special time of year,” said Major Marion Mountain, divisional community services officer for the Salvation Army.
Major Marion Mountain added: “With less than two weeks until the end of the Appeal, we are urging members of the public who want to make a donation, to do so as soon as possible.”
For the eleventh consecutive year, Jennings Motor Group has supported the Appeal by agreeing to use its Ford, Mazda and SEAT branch network throughout the region as drop off points for staff or members of the public who want to donate to the Appeal.
Jennings’ Ford and Mazda dealerships kick started this year’s Appeal towards the end of last month by donating a number of gifts, which were greatly received by the Salvation Army.
Chris Nixon, franchise manager at Jennings Mazda in Sunderland, said; “The Salvation Army does an absolutely amazing job helping people in the local community, but the help they provide isn’t just at Christmas time, it’s all year round.”
This time of year, however, is the most difficult and challenging as they have literally thousands of people they need to help in order to make their Christmas extra special.”
Running until Friday 18th December 2009, the Salvation Army is asking for members of the public to donate gifts, including new toys for children and gifts for teenagers, gifts for the elderly, non-perishable food or donations to any of Jennings Ford, Mazda or SEAT dealerships across the region.
Last year, the Appeal assisted over 1587 families, which included providing toys for more than 4344 children. In addition to over 49 homeless people were given accommodation over Christmas, more than 194 elderly people received gifts and 991 food parcels were distributed.
Jennings branches can be found at Riverside Road, Sunderland; Newcastle Road, South Shields; Eslington Park, Gateshead; Yarm Road, Stockton and Cargo Fleet Lane, Middlesbrough.
