Loyal Jeff takes over the reins as service manager at Jennings Ford Direct

A dedicated and loyal employee at Jennings Ford Direct, is celebrating after receiving a promotion.

Born and bred in South Shields, 49-year-old, Jeff Appleyard, has taken on the role of service manager at the group’s Newcastle Road dealership in South Shields.

Jeff started working at the dealership, formerly known as Selwoods, when he left school at the age of 16, a job which he secured the previous year on the proviso he achieved his qualifications.

Jeff said; “I was already familiar with staff at the branch because I used to come in when my father’s car needed servicing. The dealer principal at the time, offered me a job, but it was on the condition that I achieved my grades at school, which I did.”

That was in 1977 and Jeff embarked on a four-year Apprenticeship and became a fully fledged Technician.

Keen to broaden his experience and knowledge, in 1981, he exchanged his technician overalls for a shirt and tie and started working as a service receptionist. During his time on the service desk, he also gained valuable experience and knowledge working in the warranty department and workshop control.

Six years later, Jeff was promoted to workshop controller and in 1992 another promotion to assistant service manager was on the cards, prior to his recent promotion to service manager.

In his new role as service manager, Jeff will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the service department which will involve overseeing a team of eight technicians, a workshop foreman, a warranty advisor, two service advisors and four collection and delivery drivers. Part of his role will also involve achieving monthly, quarterly and annual objectives set out by Ford Motor Company, in addition to liaising with customers and consistently striving to provide the best possible customer service.

Jeff added; “I am absolutely delighted with the promotion and looking forward to the many challenges ahead.”

One of Jeff’s main priorities, however, is to retain the Chairman’s Award. The award, which is one of Ford’s most prestigious for customer satisfaction, has been achieved by the dealership on three separate occasions, the most recent in 2009.
