A member of staff at JenningsFord in South Shields has been rewarded for his loyalty to a job and company he has worked for since leaving school 35 years ago.
Fred Luther, 51, from South Shields, works as a panel beater within the bodyshop department at the group’s Commercial Road dealership.
“When I left Comprehensive School, it was my career advisor who steered me towards the motor industry, which resulted in me embarking on a four-year Apprenticeship programme in order to become a qualified panel beater,” said Fred.
Working alongside a team of four other panel beaters, Fred is responsible for carrying out repairs to customer’s vehicles, in addition to ensuring the repairs are carried out efficiently and within the timescale allocated.
Fred added; “I’ve enjoyed the job so much, it’s the only one I’ve ever had.”
Over the years, Fred has witnessed a number of changes within the motor industry, the most specific being major advances in technology.
Fred went on to say: “Gone are the days when everything was done manually, it’s all computerised now which is obviously less time consuming than in previous years.”
The presentation took place at the Commercial Road dealership, where Fred’s supervisor, Stan Parker, handed the vouchers to John.
“Fred is an extremely conscientious worker and is always dedicated and fully committed to the job. It was a pleasure presenting the vouchers to him.”
