An ambitious youngster from Stanley has embarked on an Apprenticeship programme at Jennings Kia, part of the Jennings Motor Group.

17-year-old, Mark Pinkerton, has been taken on as an Apprentice Motor Vehicle Technician at Jennings Kia’s service department on Parsons Road in Washington.

Mark is the second member of staff at the group’s service department in Washington to embark on an Apprenticeship through the successful Kia Academy programme.

18-year-old, Ellis Matthews, from Washington, was the first member of staff to embark on the combined service and parts advisor programme through the Kia Academy.

The three-year programme will not only see Mark gain valuable on-the-job experience, but it will also enable him to gain nationally recognised qualifications, in addition to completing bespoke training courses at Kia’s Nottingham-based training centre.

Mark said; “The Apprenticeship route was the perfect option for me, as I was keen to learn and gain practical hands-on experience and at the same time, work towards achieving additional qualifications.

“It is a fantastic opportunity for me and I am looking forward to learning new skills with experienced and qualified staff, in addition to learning the theory side of the job.”

After achieving 10 GCSE’s at St Bede’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College in Lanchester, Mark spent a year at New College Durham where he successfully achieved a Level 2 certificate in Vehicle Maintenance.

Welcoming Mark on board, service manager, June Appleyard said; “We are fully committed to training and developing staff, in addition to recruiting youngsters through various Apprenticeship programmes, which not only allows individuals to gain valuable experience, but also allows them to work towards achieving additional qualifications.

“Already Mark is proving to be an asset and welcome addition to the service team.”
