A leading North-East businessman has taken the hands on approach to boost funds for the thousands of children and families affected by the floods in Pakistan.
Nas Khan, managing director of Jennings Motor Group, which operates Ford, Mazda and SEAT dealerships across Teesside and Tyne and Wear, has set himself a week long challenge to wash as many cars as he can.
The aim of the challenge is to contribute towards raising £120,000 for the Emaan Foundation, a registered charity which was set up in 2006.
Not only will the funds provide essential aid via the form of individual and family LifeStraw water purifiers, but they will also contribute towards rebuilding a village for the people of Rahim Yar Khan, south of Punjab in Pakistan.
Nas is originally from Jhang in Punjab, Pakistan, but came to Britain at the age of 14 after his father found employment at Teesside steel mills.
Determined to reach the fundraising target no matter what it takes, Nas willingly exchanged his daily business attire and donned waterproofs, wellies and a pair of marigolds as he took part in the challenge, which is being encouraged and supported by his 470 employees across the region.
Nas Khan said; “Seeing and reading about all of the children and families who have been affected by this absolutely devastating humanitarian disaster, made me want to do something to help.
“The response and support from staff so far, has been extremely encouraging and we anticipate this, combined with other events we have organised throughout the course of the month, will substantially boost funds, which is fantastic news.”
The Emaan Foundation is working in conjunction with the respected aid organisation HAI (Human Appeal International), who already have various projects up and running in Pakistan.
HAI have also agreed to distribute the LifeStraw water purifiers, on behalf of the charity, to the neediest in Pakistan.
As soon as the water purifiers have been distributed, the next step is to focus on fundraising for the people of Rahim Yar Khan, south of Punjab in Pakistan. The village will consist of 60 homes, livestock and a deep tube well for clean drinking water.
