An ambitious youngster from West Boldon is geared for a career in the motor industry after securing an Apprenticeship with Jennings Ford, part of the multi-award winning Jennings Motor Group.

19-year-old, Mark Graham, is the latest Apprentice to join the motor dealer group after being offered a three-year Apprenticeship at the company’s service department on Parsons Road in Washington, with the aim to become a Ford approved motor vehicle technician.

The next three years will see Mark working within the busy service department, in addition to taking part in on-going assessments and working towards achieving nationally recognised qualifications through the Ford Apprenticeship programme.

After successfully completing his GCSEs at Boldon Comprehensive School, Mark went on to study a BTEC in Sports and Exercise Science at Gateshead College.

But it was the valuable spare time he spent helping his father, Kevin Graham, 57, fixing cars that spurred Mark on to want to learn more about what goes on under the bonnet and aim to become a fully-fledged motor vehicle technician.

Mark said; “I’ve always had an interest in cars and helping my Dad in my spare time made me realise just how much I wanted to make a career out of it.”

“The Apprenticeship motor vehicle technician programme at Jennings Ford was the perfect option for me as it is allowing me to gain valuable hands on experience through on-the-job training, as well as working towards achieving national vocational qualifications.”

Jennings Ford’s service department at Washington has fully trained Ford technicians on hand to service and MOT vehicles for customers, using the latest tools and diagnostic equipment, in addition to a parts department on site.

Commenting on the recent addition to the team, service manager, June Appleyard said; “Mark has a natural flair for mechanics, he is a quick learner and the knowledge and experience he already has, will go hand in hand.”

Jennings Motor Group, which operates Ford, Kia, Mazda, SEAT and Mitsubishi dealerships across the region, is committed to the Apprenticeship programme, with opportunities across all departments, including service, bodyshop, parts, sales, administration and accounts.
