New Apprenticeship offers best of both worlds for dedicated Daniel

An ambitious youngster from Stockton is steering towards a successful career in the motor industry after embarking on an Apprenticeship programme with Jennings Motor Group.
Daniel Johnson, 18, from Eaglescliffe, is the latest Apprentice to join the motor dealer group, which operates Ford, Kia, SEAT, Mazda and Mitsubishi dealerships across the region.
The one-year Apprenticeship parts advisor programme will see Daniel, who will be based at the company’s Cargo Fleet Lane supersite in Middlesbrough, learn all aspects of the busy parts department through on-the-job training with qualified members of staff, in addition to being assessed on a monthly basis and working towards achieving additional qualifications.
Initially, Daniel was keen to pursue a career in electrical engineering and after achieving 8 GCSEs at Eaglescliffe Comprehensive School, he signed up for what he thought was the perfect course for him at his local College.
Daniel said; “I studied for one and a half years, but I just knew the course wasn’t for me. I was really keen to find an Apprenticeship because it gives you the opportunity to learn valuable skills, work towards additional qualifications and at the same time, earn a wage, so you get the best of both worlds.”
Having always had an interest in motors, the next step was to find a suitable Apprenticeship within the motor industry.
Daniel added; “I couldn’t believe my luck when I visited the Apprenticeship website and saw the vacancy at the Jennings multi-franchise site in Middlesbrough.
Following an interview, Daniel was offered the Apprenticeship parts advisor placement with the overall aim to become a fully-fledged parts advisor.
His role entails liaising with existing and potential customers, in addition to liaising with staff from the company’s service and body shop departments, stock control and processing orders.
Welcoming Daniel on board, group parts manager, Kevin Gibbon, said; “We are a company committed to the Apprenticeship programme initiative, which not only allows youngsters to gain valuable practical experience, but they are also given the opportunity to work towards gaining nationally recognised qualifications.
“Daniel is one of many youngsters embarking on various programmes across the group.”
