Panto stars assist with Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal
Posted on 14 Nov 2007
Panto stars from Darlington Civic Theatre teamed up with motor dealer, JenningsFord, recently to help create a magical Christmas for underprivileged people in the region.
When JenningsFord agreed to support the Salvation Army’s Annual Christmas Appeal by using its branch network as drop off and collection points, they turned to Darlington Civic Theatre to see if Snow White, played by Zoe Birkett, and the Seven Dwarfs could assist.
Despite a rather hectic schedule, Zoe and the cast were more than willing to take time out and offer their support to this year’s Appeal.
Last year, the Appeal assisted over 1700 families, which included providing toys for more than 20,000 children. In addition over 200 homeless people were given accommodation over Christmas, more than 600 elderly received gifts and 800 food parcels were distributed.
Steven Flack, sales manager at JenningsFord’s Yarm Road branch in Stockton, said: “The Salvation Army does an amazing job helping people in the community, not just at Christmas time but all year round.”
“This time of year, however, is the most difficult and challenging time as they have thousands of people they need to assist in order to make their Christmas extra special.”
“This is the ninth year we have used our branch network as drop off and collection points for the Appeal and we are delighted to have teamed up with the Darlington Civic Theatre to promote the Appeal.”
JenningsFord is urging staff, customers and members of the public to support the Appeal by taking gifts, including new toys for children and gift for teenagers, gifts for the elderly, non-perishable food or donations to any of its five branches throughout the region. All donations must be received by 20th December 2007.
Branches can be found at Yarm Road in Stockton, Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough, Riverside Road in Sunderland, Eslington Park in Gateshead and Newcastle Road in South Shields.
‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ stars local celebrity, Zoe Birkett, Emma Atkins (Chariett Dingle from Emmerdale), John Altman (Nick Cotton from Eastenders), Peter Piper and Steve Arnott and will be appearing at Darlington Civic Theatre until Sunday 20th January 2008. Anyone who has not yet bought their tickets should telephone Darlington Civic Theatre on 01325 486 555.comments powered by
