Panto stars assist with Salvation Army’s Christmas Appeal

Posted on 15 Dec 2008

Panto stars appearing at Darlington Civic Theatre took time out of their busy schedule to help create a magical Christmas for underprivileged people in the region.

When JenningsFord agreed to support the Salvation Army’s Annual Christmas Appeal by using its branch network as drop off and collection points, they turned to Darlington Civic Theatre to see if panto stars, including Ian Reddington, Pete Hillier, Charlie Cairoli and Steve Arnott, in this year’s ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ production could assist with the promotion of the Appeal.

Last year, the Appeal assisted over 1288 families, which included providing toys for more than 5826 children. In addition, over 40 homeless people were given accommodation over Christmas, more than 221 elderly received gifts and 660 food parcels were distributed.

Despite a rather hectic schedule, the cast were more than willing to take time out and offer their support to this year’s Appeal.

Lee Spence, sales controller at JenningsFord’s Yarm branch in Stockton, said; “The Salvation Army does an amazing job helping people in the community, not just at Christmas time, but all year round.”

“This time of year, however, is the most difficult and challenging time as they have thousands of people they need to assist in order to make their Christmas extra special.”

“This is the tenth consecutive year we have used our branch network as drop off and collection points for the Appeal and we are delighted to have teamed up with the Darlington Civic Theatre to promote the Appeal.”

JenningsFord is urging staff, customers and members of the public to support the Appeal by taking gifts, including new toys for children and gifts for teenagers, gifts for the elderly, non-perishable food or donations to any of its five branches throughout the region. All donations must be received by Friday 19th December 2008.

Branches can be found at Yarm Road in Stockton, Cargo Fleet Lane in Middlesbrough, Riverside Road in Sunderland, Eslington Park in Gateshead and Newcastle Road in South Shields.

‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ is on at Darlington Civic Theatre until Sunday 18th January 2009. Anyone who has not yet bought their tickets should telephone Darlington Civic Theatre on 01325 486 555.
