Kind-hearted youngsters from a local school have been focusing on raising funds for charity.
Since September, pupils and staff at Teesside High School in Eaglescliffe have been fundraising for the Emaan Foundation, a charity which was set up by local businessman, Nas Khan, to raise money for the flood-stricken victims of Pakistan.
When pupils heard that two families in the school had been directly affected by the floods and that Mr Khan, managing director of Jennings Motor Group, had set himself a challenge to raise £120,000, which will contribute towards building a village for the people of Rahim Yar Khan, south of Punjab, they wanted to do their bit and started organising a number of fundraising activities.
A presentation recently took place at the school where Nas was handed a cheque for £1,110.00 from Year 9 pupil Philip Awad, Year 8 pupil Kit Barker and Assistant Head, Anne Vickers. This is in addition to £500 raised by the School in the Autumn term.
Nas Khan, said; “I am extremely grateful and would like to sincerely thank both pupils and teachers of Teesside High School, who have all contributed towards raising funds for charity, it is greatly appreciated and takes us another step closer to achieving our target.”
The latest donation from pupils at Teesside High has boosted the fundraising total to a staggering £80,000.
Assistant Head, Anne Vickers, said; “After hearing of the plight of families in the flood-hit areas of Pakistan, our pupils were determined to so something to help. We have organised a whole host of events, from bake sales to sponsored leg waxing and ‘sponge the teacher’! I am delighted that their hard work and efforts have led to them raising this wonderful amount for the charity.”
The Emaan Foundation is also currently holding a raffle to win a brand new Ford Ka worth more than £9000. Only 300 tickets have been printed at a cost of £50 per ticket. Tickets are available by contacting Bev Stephenson on 01642 209113.
