A loyal and dedicated member of staff at Jennings Ford, part of the Jennings Motor Group, has clocked into work for the last time.
Rob Chapman, 64, from Whickham, started working at the Eslington Park dealership in Gateshead, in 1998 when he was appointed as a sales executive.
Within a year, Rob received a promotion to fleet and business specialist which, over the years, has seen him secure hundreds of fleet contracts to supply Ford vehicles to both local and multi-national firms.
Rob’s first taste of employment started 46 years ago at the age of 18 when he started working for a motor dealer in Ponteland during the six-weeks school holiday period whilst waiting for his ‘A’ Level results.
In September 1968, he was taken on as a junior sales executive and worked his way up the ranks to branch manager, in addition to spending time implementing and delivering training programmes for the prestigious ‘Investors in People’ Award.
In 1996, Rob decided it was time for a change and found alternative employment at Jennings Ford’s dealership in Gateshead and was taken on as a sales executive and within a year was promoted to fleet and business specialist.
Rob said; “Over the years, I have made many new friends, the majority of whom have worked the same length of time, if not longer.
“I’m sad to be leaving, but at the same time looking forward to just taking each day as it comes and in particular pursuing my photography hobby.”
To mark Rob’s retirement, staff arranged a collection and a presentation took place where sales controller, David Glendinning presented cards and gifts.
David said; said; “Over the years, Rob has played a pivotal role in the success of fleet and commercial sales. On behalf of the company, I would like to wish him a very happy retirement.”
