An ambitious youngster from Chester-le-Street is on track to a successful career in the motor industry after embarking on an Apprenticeship programme with Jennings Ford, part of the Jennings Motor Group.

17-year-old, Scott Laidler, from Ouston, has joined the group’s Eslington Park dealership in Gateshead as an Apprentice Panel Beater.

The three-year Apprenticeship programme is managed and co-ordinated by Ford Automotive training provider, Skillnet.

Working within the busy bodyshop department, Scott is gaining on-the-job training alongside fully trained and approved panel beaters, in addition to on-going assessments and block release training at The Manchester College.

Scott said; “Initially, I applied to become an Apprentice on-line and after an interview with Skillnet, I was asked to attend an interview at Jennings Ford.

“I was keen to start working and the Apprenticeship programme was the perfect option for me as it will give me the opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience and at the same time allow me to work towards achieving additional qualifications.”

Bodyshop manager, Andrew Fisher, is responsible for running the 8-strong team at Gateshead. Welcoming Scott on board, he said;

“The Ford Apprenticeship programme is an excellent opportunity for youngsters who are looking to take that first step on the career ladder. Already Scott is showing potential and is proving to be an asset to the bodyshop team through his hard work and commitment.”
