A loyal member of staff at Jennings Ford was given a good send off from colleagues after he clocked in to work for the last time.
60-year-old, Trevor Liddle, from Whickham, has taken early retirement from the Eslington Park dealership in Gateshead, where he has worked for the past 39 years.
It all started in 1973 when Trevor was appointed at Jennings Ford, formerly Peter Garven’s, in Gateshead as a parts salesman. His hard work, determination and dedication to the job soon paid off when he was promoted to parts supervisor. Within a short period of time, Trevor received a second promotion to parts manager, a position he has held for the past 20 years.
During his time as parts manager which entailed overseeing the day-to-day running of the department at Gateshead, Trevor also spent a short period of time overseeing the group’s parts department at the group’s Ford Direct dealership in South Shields.
Trevor said, “I gave the decision to retire a lot of thought and in the end I knew it was the best move for me to make. The only problem is that I will miss my work colleagues in the parts department. We all worked very well together and I could not have done such a good job without their support help and continuous hard work, for which I am extremely grateful.”
Over the years Trevor has witnessed many changes within the motor industry, the most significant being advances in technology.
Trevor added; “When computers were introduced, it was a whole new learning curve for us and something we had to learn from scratch and adapt to, quickly. Looking back I don’t know how we functioned so efficiently without them!”
After leaving school at the age of 16, Trevor worked as a salesman within the optical and photographic department for CWS in Newcastle, prior to working as a parts man for the transport and cleansing department at Gateshead Corporation.
In his retirement Trevor plans to spend time travelling and is currently preparing for a holiday to Gran Canaria, in addition to pursuing a lifelong photography hobby.
To mark his retirement, a special presentation took place at Jennings Ford’s Gateshead dealership where operations director, Nicky Dalkin, presented Trevor with a card and gift vouchers on behalf of the company and his work colleagues.
Operations director, Nicky Dalkin, said, “Trevor is an extremely dedicated and committed individual who has been a pleasure to know and work with over the years. On behalf of Jennings Motor Group, I would like to wish Trevor a healthy and happy retirement.”
As one door closes and Trevor hangs up his overalls for good, another door has opened with the recent appointment of parts apprentice, Kieran Mullen who has embarked on a two-year apprenticeship within the parts department at the Jennings Ford branch in Gateshead.
