Dr Nas Khan OBE
When Nas came to Britain at the age of 14, he could not speak English, but went on to become managing director of one of the North East’s longest established, privately-owned and independent motor retailers – Jennings Motor Group.
His career in motors began as a graduate at the age of 22 when he was appointed as a sales executive at the company’s Jennings Ford dealership in Yarm Road, Stockton. The next decade saw a number of promotions to business manager, assistant sales manager and group sales/marketing manager.
Throughout his career, Nas, from Stockton in Teesside, has been involved in three successful management buyouts, the first of which, was from the third generation of the original Septimus Jennings family, and resulted in a fourth promotion to sales and marketing director. He then took over as managing director and later became sole proprietor of the company.
As managing director, Nas is responsible for 524 members of staff across 12 dealerships representing Ford, Kia, Mazda, SEAT and Mitsubishi. The portfolio of dealerships also includes Ford Transit Centres for commercial vehicles, a Ford Direct site for Ford approved cars and a Jennings Used Car Outlet.
In addition to selling new and quality used cars to retail, fleet and Motability customers, the business also focuses heavily on aftersales and offers a full range of facilities, including service, MOT, accident repair and parts.
In recent years under the leadership of Nas, the company has expanded rapidly and diversified into selling and servicing motorcycles, following the takeover of Leeds Harley-Davidson® and the opening of a brand new Gateshead Harley-Davidson® dealership, as well as venturing into the catering industry with the opening of a SUBWAY® store located at the group’s Kia dealership in Stockton, Teesside. Committed to continuous development and investment in the North East and West Yorkshire, other priorities for Nas include staff training and development, providing competitively-priced products and delivering outstanding levels of customer service.
Over the years, Nas has won many accolades, including an OBE for his charity work and contribution to the economy, Ford Motor Company’s highly prestigious Salute to Dealers global award, a local business award, in addition to an award from Human Appeal International for his commitment to charity.
The company has also been awarded Ford Motor Company’s most prestigious award for delivering the highest level of customer service on 20 occasions over the past 21 years.
Heavily committed to supporting local charities and the community, over the past 18 years The Salvation Army has benefited from on-going support with its annual Christmas Present Appeal by utilising the company’s branch network as drop-off and collection points for gift donations, in addition to receiving a number of cash donations to help kick-start various appeals.
The company also pledges support to a specific charity on an annual basis. In 2015, Teesside Hospice benefited from a donation in excess of £13,000 and last year saw more than £135,000 being raised for the Great North Air Ambulance Service. The charity has been selected for a second consecutive year as the company’s nominated charity, following a unanimous on-line vote from staff.
Nas, besides supporting many local charities through his business, has been involved in setting up his own charity and fundraising appeal - The Emaan Foundation. The charity raised £120,000 which was used to rebuild an entire village in Pakistan, following the devastating floods that took place in 2010. Not resting on his laurels, Nas is currently involved in another appeal with the overall objective to fund the construction of a health centre for people living in the village, which has since been named the Emaan Village. Fundraising is on-going and to date in excess of £20,000 has been raised.
