20 years of the Ford Mondeo

Over the past 20 years almost 1.5 million Ford Mondeo cars have been bought by UK motorists. Jennings Motor Group takes a look at it throughout its history and the various different editions that have been released.

Ford Mondeo MK I – 1993 until 1996

Taking over from the legendary Ford Sierra in the Ford range, the Mondeo had big shoes to fill and fill them it did. Featuring an impressive array of safety features and superb handling, the Mondeo MK 1 won over cynical press and Ford drivers alike.

Jennings Motor Group Ford Mondeo MKII

Ford Mondeo MK II – 1996 until 2000

A lighter and more attractive version, the MK II built on the success of its predecessor. With a full size driver airbag and four channel anti-lock brakes, the Mondeo MKII had exceptional safety features. Available in many sport versions including a 2.5 litre V6 with 170bhp and a whopping 202bhp ST200, the Mondeo MKII had the petrol heads lusting after it.

Ford Mondeo MK III – 2000 until 2007

With a classier interior and a larger boot, the Mondeo MK II saw the introduction of ISP (Integrated Safety Protection), a system that used sensors to deploy the best combination of safety features during an accident.  A ST220 version delivered a staggering 226bhp from a 3.0 litre engine that was capable of 0-60 in only 6.2 seconds.

Ford Mondeo MK IV – 2007 onwards

Driven briefly James Bond in Casino Royle, the MK IV Mondeo benefited from improved cabin space, higher quality materials and the Ford Power Keyless entry system.  The winner of many major awards including What Car? Best Family Car for three consecutive years in 2011, 2012 and 2013, the Mondeo MKIV continues to impress drivers through the UK.
