Recent years has seen the award winning Ford 1.0l EcoBoost increasing in popularity with Ford owners. Available with 100PS, 125PS and 140PS, the 3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine has been given the tile of ‘Best engine under 1.0l’ at the International Engine of the Year Awards.

Already offering exceptional fuel efficiency Ford has announced that it is taking its range to the new level with the inclusion of a cylinder deactivation. Set to be launched in 2018, the 3-cylinder unit will be the first engine of its size to include technology usually seen on 6 or 8 cylinder units. Developed by Ford’s specialist engineers the new system is set to save up to 6% fuel efficiency in normal driving conditions.
Activated or deactivated in an incredible 14milliseconds the new engine cylinder deactivation system is literally quicker than the blink of a human eye that can take up to 300 to 400 milliseconds. Designed to operate at speeds engine revs of up to 4,500RPM, the valves have the ability to open and close up to 40 times per second.
