Ford Mustang Coming To the UK

Posted on 10 Dec 2013

Ford has announced that one of its most iconic cars is coming to the UK. The Mustang has been North America’s most celebrated muscle car since its release all the way back in 1964; however, until now, it has never been officially sold in the UK.

From early 2015, a right-hand drive version of the car affectionately known as the ‘stang’ will make its way to Ford dealerships across Europe with a new look and a V8 engine.

Old meets new

The most successful Mustangs are those that have stayed true to the original design and the sixth-generation model sticks with the tried and trusted format of long bonnet and rearward cab design. While the classic styling is still very evident though, Ford are a forward-thinking company and the UK’s first Ford muscle car is built on the latest company platform, with a new chassis, performance brakes and advanced suspension that includes an independent rear set-up.

“You only get one chance to make a first impression and when you see this car, you immediately see a Mustang strong and true,” said Moray Callum, executive design director at Ford, The Americas.

Ford says that the new car is well suited to European roads and our ‘high speed driving culture’ and the interior of the car will sport an aviation-inspired design with two large instrument dials. Plenty of elbow and boot space (the boot will be large enough for two golf bags) will also be afforded thanks to a new wider body.

Engine choices

Ford has so far not released technical specs just yet, but did confirm that a choice of engines will be available to the European market.

According to the telegraph, power from the top-of-the-range GT model will come courtesy of a 5.0-litre V8, which will put out 423 bhp and around 390 lbs. of torque. A more intriguing engine choice, though, is the 2.3-litre EcoBoost, which is designed to provide turbocharged performance and improved economy. The four cylinder EcoBoost is said to develop 305 bhp and around 300 lbs. of torque.

Coupe and convertible

The Mustang will be available in coupe and convertible versions, the latter coming with a multi-layer fabric hood designed for optimum noise elimination. Both versions will come with a 12-speaker sound set-up and Ford’s SYNC touchscreen control system and 19-inch alloy wheels.

Ford of Europe vice president of marketing, sales and service, Roelant de Waard, told the Telegraph: “The new Mustang is one of the most hotly anticipated cars ever; we are very excited to now give drivers in Europe the opportunity to experience the real thing.” Keep a look at for the official launch date.

The sixth generation Mustang will go on sale in the US next year before arriving in Europe in early 2015. Prices are yet to be confirmed by Ford but are expected to start at £30,000, with the top V8 model around £5,000 extra.
