Sending Ford fanatics in to a frenzy, it follows an announcement at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show that Ford were developing a new dedicated battery electric vehicle platform (BEV) that increased performance levels over economy.
The teased image shows that the new SUV takes inspiration from the iconic rear end and taillights of the icon Ford Mustang. Dubbed “Mach 1” it shared its name with the number plate linked to the original 1969-70 model.
Speaking about the introduction of electric vehicles to the Ford line up, Ford’s global product development director, Darren Palmer commented “It’s an exciting time to be bringing forward a winning portfolio of electrified vehicles,” He added “My team and I are both proud of and energized by the company’s $11 billion investment to bring 16 fully electric vehicles within a global portfolio of 40 electrified vehicles through 2022.”
With more electric and hybrid models set to be added to the Ford new vehicle range the programme will eventually include the Mustang as well as the introduction of SUV and crossovers.
