Kia set to introduce Ceed SW and Sportage plug-in models
The range of Kia plug-in vehicles is set to expand further with the introduction of new Sportage, Ceed models. This will be complemented by a new Soul electric vehicle. Jennings Kia takes a look at what can be expected from Kia in 2019.
Using the same powertrain as the Kia Niro PHEV, the new Kia Ceed plug-in is set to go on sale in the UK in “the second half of 2019”. A 59kW electric motor and 8.kWh battery pack are set to be coupled to a 139bhp 1.6l petrol engine. Economy figures are set to beat the Kia Niro PHEV’s 217mpg and 29g/km of CO2.
Speaking about the upcoming plug-in additions to the new Kia range, Artur Martins, Kia Europe’s marketing chief, commented: “We are going to introduce it for the wagon, and then decide if it makes sense on other body-types”. He went on to add “We are going to need more electrification on other products in the future. We must get to a mix of around 25-30% electrified models to hit the CO2 targets”.
Further models to get a plug-in makeover are set to include the Sportage and Sorento SUV models, as well as an updated Optima PHEV.
Mirroring the e-Niro, the new Kia Soul is set to be available with a choice of 34 or 60kWhr battery offering a range of up to 300 miles. Set to be revealed at the Los Angeles Motorshow in November, it is set to arrive in the UK in spring 2019.
