Utilising Kia’s partnership with Hyundai to use the same drivetrain as the existing Ioniq, that has launched as an EV, petrol hybrid or plug-in hybrid, the technology is available to Kia. With a business case looking strong, an exclusively electric version is looking be possible. Over 1,000 Kia Niro hybrid crossovers have been sold so far demonstrating the growing demand for new technologies.
Speaking about the potential plug in hybrid edition, cardealer.co.uk quoted Tae-Hyun Oh, Kia’s Chief Operating Officer, who commented “We have just launched Niro in Europe and the United States, but also we always need to meet [increased] local emission regulations”, adding “So in this sense we are looking at a feasibility study to develop a Niro which is electric”.
The latest Kia Niro is available to test drive today at Jennings Kia in Washington and Stockton. For further information call 0333 414 9750 to speak to a Kia Hybrid specialist.
