London testing for Ford Transit Custom Hybrid

Continuing Ford’s investment programme in hybrid technology, it has been announced that a programme of 20 Plug-In Hybrid Ford Transit Custom will undergo a yearlong trial on the streets of London.

With a range of 31 miles on electric power, the units will be designed and built at the Dunton Technical Centre in Essex and have the ability to switch to traditional power for longer and non-urban journeys. The pilot aims to reduce pollution with 280,000 journey made daily in London by Transit Custom and similar vehicles.
Speaking about the upcoming London trail, Jim Farley, Chairman and CEO of Ford Europe said “Teaming up with our London partners, we will also be able to trial software and telematics with enormous potential to reduce emissions and costs in the city”. He continued “This new type of partnership demonstrates our evolution to both an auto and mobility company. We have lots of work to do, but everyone is so energized by this breakthrough opportunity.”
