All-New Mazda MX-5 gets Top Gear seal of approval

When you provide a car for Top Gear to review you wonder what they will make of it. When they come back with “It seems very early for me to find my Car of the Year. But I think I just did” you know that you have something very special on your hands. Richard Hammond has reviewed the All-New Mazda MX-5 for both Top Gear magazine and Top Gear TV programme we think he quite liked it.

The fourth generation of the world’s best-selling sports car was reviewed during a road test in Spain by the Top Gear presenter in the build up to its official launch later in the year and in Hammond’s own words “I grinned harder than I have in a car for a long time” and he went on to add “Mazda adds lightness and gadgets. It’s like a miracle”. Could it actually of got a better review?

5 star Auto Express review

It is not only Top Gear that has been impressed with the All-New version of the iconic Mazda MX-5. Auto Express have given the latest version the maximum five stars praising the sports car adding “It has added a fresh design and technology while preserving what made the previous three generations so popular – and that’s genuine open-top, sports car thrills for buyers on a budget. For that reason, even on this early taster drive it’s clear this is shaping up to be the best MX-5 yet”.

The front and rear overhangs also been reduced by 90mm with wheelbase also reduced by 15mm. Weight is reduced by more than 100kg through a chassis that utilises lightweight innovative SKYACTIV technology and an engine positioned behind the front axle and closer to the centre of the car to improve handling and lower the car’s centre of gravity.
