Mazda MX-5 RF / Toyota GT86 head to head

With the Mazda MX-5 RF recently released in the UK and the Toyota GT86 undergoing a facelift, both are at the top of their game.

Weighing 202kg lighter than the Toyota GT86, the Mazda MX-5 is quicker to 0-62mph with 6.8 seconds compared to 7.6 despite having 39 less bhp. Offering a softer chassis than the GT86, the Mazda MX-5 RF has balanced steering in the corner with the gears set up just right for the damping set-up.

Interior quality

Commenting on the interiors, Auto Express about the Toyota GT86 interior said the GT86’s cabin still feels a bit cheap with lots of hard plastics, while it doesn’t feel quite as luxurious as the MX-5, despite the Mazda’s tighter packaging and lower price tag.”
