Unlike many concept cars that are unveiled at motor shows, the Mazda Kai has been designed to be built. Demonstrating Mazda’s unique design style, the dramatic look includes fewer visual elements and a cleaner surface.
Speaking about the Mazda Kia, Mazda’s European design director, Kevin Rice commented “manufacturing tolerances and techniques have been incorporated into this project since the very beginning. We’re working with our manufacturing guys on new techniques - in particular, new stamping and pressing techniques - that would allow us to form the type of shapes on the KAI, and also for them to stay in place”.
Slightly shorter in length that the current Mazda3, the Kai also feature a reduced height of 1,375mm. Pushing the rear wheels to the rear bumper, the wheelbase has increased by 50mm. Inside the Mazda Kai offers a clean look, with a horizontal dashboard stretching from door to door.
