With the HCCI engine set to increase fuel efficiency by around 30%, Mazda will be hoping the introduction of a PHEV will match or beat this figure when introduced in 2021. Set to introduce new levels of efficiency, Mazda are set into introduce a new era of car production.
Speaking about the developments that Mazda have made regarding fuel efficiency, Kiyoshi Fujiwara, Mazda director commented that this “very lean air-fuel mixture that is too lean to combust by spark ignition [alone] can combust by this method cleanly and rapidly”.
