New generation SEAT Leon spied
Ahead of launch in 2019, the next generation of SEAT Leon has been spied undergoing testing in both daylight and darkness. Heavily camouflaged with the obligatory black and white covering, the prototype included ‘temporary’ lights attached to the bonnet.
Taking the camouflage to the limit everything possible was heavily disguised. This includes headlights, indicators, door panels, as well as the internal seating and dashboard. Possibly set to take inspiration from the upcoming SEAT Tarraco, the grille maybe in a lower position on the front. This may also lead to the headlights becoming slimmer and angled towards the edges of the grille.
Appearing to be longer is size than the current model, it seems that the new wheelbase will free up extra space in the cabin. Optimising the updated MQB platform, it will match the next generation Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3 and Skoda Octavia.
Speaking about the upcoming addition of the next generation SEAT Leon to the award-winning SEAT range, Dr Matthias Rabe, SEAT board member commented “It’s our biggest push ever. We’ve had Ateca, now Arona, the renewal of Ibiza, the facelifted Leon. But it’s only now that we really accelerate; over the next three years we’ll see six or seven new models, and most of them will be totally new.” He added “You will be able to see that it is a Leon; you won’t be able to mistake it for any car in the segment. But that is what we’ve been working on, across our range; now we have a clear, consistent product design identity.”
A plug-in hybrid version is set to arrive in 2020 that utilised a powertrain that will assist in the introduction of electric models in the future.
