With the three door version being removed from the option list, it will only be available as a 5 door. A 1.0l turbocharged three cylinder engine will headline the new Kia Rio engine options, with 99bhp or 118bhp power outputs. Emission levels are yet to be confirmed by Kia, but are expected to include a low tax option that produces under 100g/km of CO2 on a combined cycle.
The chassis is set to have a wheelbase increase of 10mm that helps to improve cabin space, whilst the overall length increased by 15mm. Width remains the same, while the boot increases in size by 37 litres to 325 litres beating rivals including the Vauxhall Corsa and Ford Fiesta.
The launch of the 2017 Kia Rio will be crowned by the introduction of a GT-Line edition featuring unique wheels, body and trim=, however a full GT hot hatch edition has been denied. Technology will feature highly with the Kia Rio as it will be compatible with Apple’s CarPlay system, with USB ports featuring both in the front and rear of the cabin.
As of yet the new Kia Rio has not been awarded a EuroNcap safety rating, however Kia have publically stated the desire to achieve the maximum thanks to numerous safety features including autonomous braking and a body made from largely high-strength steel.
As with every new car in the Kia range, the 2017 Rio will come with the industry leading 7 year / 100,000 mile warranty as standard. Speaking about the upcoming launch of the new Kia Rio, Michael Cole, Chief Operating Officer at Kia Europe, commented “The Rio has been sharpened, matured, has an improved interior and more technology” adding “The car is a step up, a good step forward”.
