Featuring a striking new logo, the first solo-branded models are set to be revealed next month. Cupra editions are due to include a performance Ateca SUV, Leon and possibly an Ibiza. Speaking about the introduction of the Cupra brand, Luca de Meo, President of SEAT commented it would give the opportunity to “add another dimension” to the company.
A future possibility for the new Cupra brand is the introduction of limited number Cupra-only models. With SEAT introducing trademark requests for Tango, Salsa and Bolero, these previous concept car names may be seen as part of the range soon.
Leading motoring publication Autocar.co.uk commented ahead of the launch “Seat has always been positioned as the Volkswagen Group’s ‘youth’ brand. In the past, that has involved a focus on sportiness, with its Cupra models serving as halo products. But with the ‘smartphone generation’ more interesting in technology and style, Seat’s growth in recent years has been fuelled by broadening its appeal through SUVs and a focus on cool, ‘urban’ design”.
